The Turn of a Coin by ~DaYog:iconDaYog:

I heard the sermon preached
There was terror in the words he had to say.
I heard an angel sing
It was destructive in an unfamiliar way.
I heard the trumpets blare
The walls of the city were torn away.

I watched the poor eat leavened bread
And give thanks for a place to stay.
I saw a child smile
It was heaven in a most familiar way.
I heard the street musician strum
A few coins given to let the spirit play.

Hannah: *confused* But, Jesus doesn't have a penis!

Donnie: I would fight a rabid hyena for your vagina!

Sarai (me): There comes a moment when you know you are going to fall, but at the same moment you know you have to fall to survive it.

I like the contrast between the majestic devastation described in the first stanza and the simple happiness described in the second. I also like that despite the contrast, the rhyme remains the same throughout the poem. I like it!

This comment is fleeting
It may stay, but soon forgotten
And yet, it is human contact
And for a moment, our lives
Have run into each other
What is your story
Are you happy
And why
I wonder who you are
:icondayog:
The consistent rhyme, I think, helps exacerbate the differences between the two stanzas.

Thank you for your comments.

A very good point. And you're welcome.
